Leprechaun Alert!!

A leprechaun (or maybe more than one) has been spotted in the kindergarten classroom. You know the ones we are talking about. They are those funny-looking little green guys with the pointed ears.

It is said that if you catch a leprechaun on or before St. Patrick’s Day, you will get his pot of gold. We would like you to try. Your homework assignment is to build a leprechaun trap. Sorry, we have no particular dimensions to give you, except to say that leprechauns are generally considered to be quite small. We don’t know how strong leprechauns are! Perhaps a shoe box, cereal box, oatmeal container, envelope, wood, you will also want to consider what type of bait might lure a leprechaun. Would he be looking for green decorations or orange? Is he looking for something good to eat or something to fill his treasure chest? Perhaps you need to check the library for some leprechaun stories.
This is a family homework assignment. Let everyone join in on the fun. Use your imaginations and try to have the trap to school between Monday, March 11 and Friday, March 15. We need to have all the traps set up before we leave on March 15 so that we can try to catch the leprechaunson St. Patrick’s Day. Surely we’ll be able to catch one over the weekend! Be sure to have your Kindergarten child’s name on the trap so we know who trapped the leprechaun, if we catch one!
Enjoy this project!
Good Luck and Happy Hunting!
